Just when I thought I’d seen and heard it all about sex toys, kinks, and bizarre sex trends or sexual health practices, new products keep appearing and convincing me that creativity knows no limits. In today’s episode, I’m presenting you Chakrubs, which, put in simple terms, are healing crystal dildos.
Crystals are already a huge trend among many who claim that their lives have improved thanks to their healing properties. These crystals are placed on different points of the body called chakras ,which are, according to Hinduism and Buddhism, centers of energy located in specific parts of our body, all the way from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Others carry these stones with them, or keep them in their homes to improve the environment’s energy. Although there is no factual scientific research backing up the properties of these crystals and how they cure medical illnesses or physical ailments, we can be certain of one thing, and that is that they have made many of its users feel better.
Maybe it’s all a placebo effect or an unknown cause that's actually producing these benefits; we cannot say for sure. However, Vanessa Cuccia took the healing crystals wellness trend one step further and created Chackrubs, a dildo that provides all the spiritual cleansing of a crystal. I don’t think I need to explain how they work (they're dildos), but I do need to talk about what makes them different from any other sex toy you’ve seen before, as well as the main reason why many people are ditching their old plastic dildos: it's not just for their verifiable benefits, such as avoiding the chemicals in the plastic, which many people are allergic to, but the idea that they can help cure past sex traumas.
Here, I believe, is where it all starts getting a little tricky. If you like a specific sex toy, you should go ahead and use it, as long as it doesn’t affect your health and well-being. If you actually feel better after a session with healing crystals on your chakras, also go for it. However, should we trust an object to cure something as serious as sexual trauma when there are actual psychological therapies designed to treat it?
According to Cuccia, Chakrubs are made from different crystals, and each has a different healing property. For instance, the one made with rose quartz “dissolves the sorrows, worries, fears and resentments,” the amethyst one “works in the emotional, spiritual, and physical planes to provide calm, balance, patience, and peace,” and the crown jewel, the Chakrub Gaia Stone, “is a powerful aid to the process of raising the Kundalini,” that is, the primal energy through which it’s possible to reach enlightenment. The benefits of self-love and having an orgasm have already been backed up by many studies, but saying these dildos are capable of dealing with more complex issues, such as spiritual balance, worries and fears, or even helping people on the road to enlightenment, is quite a statement, specially because there might be many people out there who really need these benefits or an actual cure to sexual trauma.
It would be great if such an issue could be cured with some sexy time and a magical crystal that’ll make all your worries disappear. However, healing trauma is not that simple. It involves coping with an event that marked you, and learning to close and heal a scar until the wound stops hurting, so you might need professional help to cure it. Betting on a sex toy to cure that trauma might not be harmful, but it might only be a superficial treatment for a problem that requires deeper work and supervision.
