Sometimes you just have to go back to basics to find natural products that actually improve your health without adding so many chemicals to our system. Green tea is like a miracle of nature and an amazing aid for glowing, gorgeous skin.

Every day tons of new products are created in response to our demand (and maybe obsession) with the healthy lifestyle trend. Don’t get me wrong, even if it’s a trend, it's always great to pursue a healthy life. However, sometimes it’s best to forget about all these new products and go back to basics: the things Mother Nature gives us and that can do more wonders than any artificial product. As you get from the title, the protagonist of today’s article is green tea, an inexpensive and easy-to-consume natural product that really does wonders for our overall health. I’ve been using it in all sorts of ways in the last few months, and I've felt loads better (not to mention happier).

This particular type of tea, that comes from the Camellia sinensis leaves, is highly rich in antioxidants and a huge list of properties we’re going to see that’s amazing for basically everything. So, without further ado, here are some of the many benefits green tea has on your overall health, and skin.

It protects the skin and hair

One of the things that can damage our skin and hair the most is the many chemicals we’re exposed to on a daily basis. Due to the many antioxidants green tea has, it can be a great product to protect hair and skin cells from pollution, UV rays, and basically any stressor found in the environment. You can access this benefit by just drinking it daily, or you can increase its protective properties by applying it directly to the hair and skin. You can create masks from the remaining leaves after preparing it and see almost immediate results.

Reduces dark circles and tiredness

We gave this away from the title, but it’s definitely one of the best things green tea has given to me. The caffeine in the tea can help improve circulation, thus decreasing the dilation of blood vessels. You can also accelerate the process with a very simple trick. After preparing your beverage, put two of the used tea bags in the fridge for a while and then place them under your eyes from five to ten minutes. The coolness combined with the tea will start and anti-inflammatory process that will reduce the fluids that cause redness and swelling. You’ll notice soon that your skin will look fresher and less tired.

Promotes hair growth

Are you trying to grow your hair longer and stronger? Seek no more. Green tea is great for inhibiting the growth of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), the main culprit behind hair loss. In addition, thanks to its natural antiseptic properties, it’s also great to treat common issues like dandruff and scalp irritation. And that's not all: just as it helps you with your dark circles, it can be a great aid in reducing inflammation and promoting healthier hair cells. A healthy scalp means healthier, longer, and stronger hair. Again, use the bags to massage your scalp before shampooing and enjoy gorgeous hair.

Natural anti-acne treatment

Green tea contains an important compound called EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), which high in anti-acne properties. This one’s great not only to reduce blemishes on the skin but also to make them disappear. Remember the anti-inflammatory properties we mentioned? Well, it also works for acne. You just have to apply steeped tea wherever there’s a pimple, leave it for some minutes and rinse it afterward.

Best anti-aging natural product

If you’re looking for something to slow the aging process, green tea can be your go-to. It contains polyphenols, a kind of antioxidant that reduces free radicals. This is great to prevent cells from aging. Two cups of green tea a day and you’ll be seeing wonders in that area.

Overall health benefits

Green tea isn’t only amazing for our skin and hair, it also has so many health benefits that you'll wonder why you haven’t been drinking this religiously all your life. One of its most important benefits is that it helps regulate blood pressure because it works as a natural ACE inhibitor. ACE is an enzyme better known as angiotensin-converting, which is secreted by the kidneys and can raise your blood pressure when it isn’t properly processed. Not only, that, perhaps it’s most appealing benefit is the fact that its EGCG is a great metabolism booster, thus promoting weight loss. And as if that weren't enough, these compounds also help mobilize fat from cells and boosts fat burning hormones. Besides that, it promotes a better digestive health, which combined with a balanced diet can bring so many benefits for your body, including detoxifying it.

As you can see, this natural wonder works so many levels in our body, making it a go-to to improve our overall health. I mean, it’s not a coincidence that it's been around for so millennia in ancient cultures. Best part is that it’s so accessible and easy to consume, that it’s basically impossible to go wrong with it. Try with one or two cups of green tea per day, and you’ll start noticing the results and benefits sooner than you’d expect.
