This Is All You Need To Know Before ‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’ Begins

american horror story apocalypse season 8

Are the witches coming to the Murder House? Is Vivien Harmon's son the real Antichrist? Is the recurring cast reprising all their roles? This is what we know so far about the new American Horror Story crossover season, Apocalypse.

The eighth season of American Horror Story is about to begin, and I couldn’t be more excited to see some its original, witty horror stories again. Not that I didn’t like the last season, but ‘Cult’ was completely different from what they had been developing over the years. For this new season, as you might know already, producers are taking two of their most successful seasons and joining them to create ‘Apocalypse.’ So, the main question here is, how are they going to combine ‘Murder House’ and ‘Coven’? Are the recurring actors going to play only one of their characters or both of them? Will the next seasons also be two-in-one? Let’s try to answer these questions and see where both seasons left off, so we can have everything important in mind before watching this new and highly promising season.

As it’s become some sort of a tradition, creators have used an amazing design team to fill social media with amazing art related to the series, and some clues for fans to go crazy trying to decipher them. This time, the first clue that was dropped was an amazingly alluring picture of a black hand holding a demonic baby with their characteristic lettering reading "apocalypse." Now, since it’s a crossover between seasons in this already connected world American Horror Story has created, we have to remember how ‘Murder House’ ended.

At the end of the first season, Vivien Harmon delivers twins helped by the ghostly inhabitants in the house. One of the babies, a stillborn is taken by the original owner of the house, Nora Montgomery, who’s always mourning the death of her baby boy. The other baby, the product of a ghost with a living woman, is born perfectly, but when both Harmons die, he’s taken by Constance Langdon, played by the amazing Jessica Lange.

Now, since the first image was posted on social media, people automatically linked Michael, the toddler Constance raised and who we saw murdering his nanny at the end of the first season of the anthology series, with the demonic baby of the image. This has given the idea that this boy is the Antichrist, who eventually will bring the world to an end through the Apocalypse.

As for season one, it’s already known that both Harmons (Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott) will be returning to their original roles. Taissa Farmiga, who plays their daughter Violet, is also coming back. However, since she also played the witch that kills anyone she has sex with (Zoe Benson in ‘Coven’) it’s still unknown whether she’s going to play Violet as well in this season (though the Wikipedia entry says she will). Last week, the first trailer was released, and there were many clues that could answer our questions.

The trailer puts us 18 months in the future in a world of devastation, presumably after a nuclear war holocaust. There are few remaining people and we see the great Sarah Paulson in a new character, Venable, who’s reaching a compound called Outpost 3. As she explains, the world is now theirs, and they’ll mold it according to their beliefs.

In that same trailer, we can see Peter Evans also playing a new character belonging to that group (though he’s also listed to appear as the troubled school shooter Tate Langdon). Besides him and Paulson, the trailer gives some old connections, like one of the couples from the last ‘Cult’ season, or the rubber man from ‘Murder House’ (which ended up being Tate all the time and fathered Michael in disguise). Last but not least, besides the creepy and strict new society, we can also see our favorite coven led by Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Paulson again).

Honestly, the trailer looks completely different from what I had pictured when the crossover was announced, but it definitely shows how the creators are always willing to turn our worst fears into really fun stories. Seriously, I can’t wait to be immersed in this frightening universe, and I know many of you will too.
