Por: Mariel Espindola26 de octubre de 2021

Confirmed! Ryan Gosling to play Ken in Barbie movie

Is there a more dreamy couple than Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie? Soon we will be able to both stars in action in the upcoming movie where they will be playing the iconic Barbie and Ken. You read that right, Barbie and Ken!

Ryan Gosling as Ken

Ryan Gosling has been cast to play Ken, Barbie's love interest, in the movie about the Mattel doll that will star Margot Robbie. According to Deadline, Gosling is currently finalizing details regarding his contract to bring the character to life.

The news indicates that the actor has always been the first choice to play the doll and that, although at first, the interpreter refused to participate, the studio has insisted and renegotiated the conditions to make his participation possible. After several animated films starring the iconic doll, Barbie's live-action debut will be brought to cinemas by Hollywood's power couple, director Greta Gerwig (Little Women and Lady Bird), and screenwriter Noah Baumbach (A Marriage Story).

About the Barbie movie

The idea of the film started in 2018 by Sony, with Amy Schumer (The Humans) as the lead and a script by Diablo Cody (Juno). However, the actress had to leave the project and be replaced by Anne Hathaway, who would also leave the film shortly after. After this, the production company returned the rights to Mattel, who tried to relaunch the idea in collaboration with Warner Bros. in 2019, confirming Margot Robbie as the chosen one to embody the iconic doll.

In an interview for Vogue UK, Margot Robbie commented, "It comes with a lot of baggage behind it. It stirs up a lot of nostalgic memories, but that means there will be a lot of exciting ways to approach it. People hear Barbie and think, 'I know what the movie is about,' but then they find out it's written and directed by Greta Gerwig and say, 'Oh, well, maybe that's not it.'"

When will the film be released?

Although no dates have yet been confirmed, the film shooting is expected to start in early 2022 and hit theaters in 2023.
