Emmy Nominations 2018: Here's What You Need To Know

emmy nominations 2018

You still have some time to binge watch the nominated series for this year's Emmy Awards.

The list of Emmy Nominations for this year’s edition of the awards has been finally revealed and there are so many interesting cases to point out. For years, the Emmy Awards had been basically the same show year after year, awarding the same shows and pretty much the same people. We have cases like Game of Thrones, awarded at least in one category every season, or comedies like Modern Family, excessively nominated for four consecutive years with 13 awards in the different categories. Last year was more surprising, with new series taking all the spotlight and taking home most of the awards. We saw this mainly with series like The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies, and The Crown, two of these being great examples of the fact that the best shows are being produced by streaming companies rather than regular television.

This year, though, there are some old faces (Donald Glover could take his second consecutive Emmy, Claire Foy is nominated again for her role in The Crown, and Elisabeth Moss in The Handmaid’s Tale), we also have some surprises that show that the industry is and needs to continue changing. For instance, there’s much more diversity in the nominee’s list. We have Sandra Oh nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Killing Eve, making her the first Asian woman nominated for an award in the Lead Actress category in the Emmys. Also, we have Hispanic nominees, with Antonio Banderas in NatGeo’s Genius: Picasso and Penélope Cruz, Edgar Ramírez, and Ricky Martin in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story

So, without further ado, here are the nominees for the main categories in this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Download this list and share your winners with us on social media!

As we all saw in award ceremonies last year, these events aren't only so we can watch our favorite celebrities wearing fancy dresses and receiving awards: they’ve become platforms to discuss serious issues happening in the world. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise for many of the attendants to take social and political stands at the ceremony, thus making the event something to really follow closely. This year’s Emmy Awards will take place next September 17th with the best in primetime entertainment.
