Movies The Golden Globe Nominees Have Just Been Announced, Officially Starting Awards Season

The first nominees of the 2019 awards season are finally here. Take a look at the full list of the 76th Golden Globe Awards nominees.

The Golden Globe Awards are often considered to be the Academy Awards’ prelude, and in a way, it’s true. This show is the starting point of the highly-anticipated award season, where the best productions of the year are recognized. The Golden Globes are given by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to the best of both film and television. This year, the competition is fierce and quite interesting, as things become more diverse in the entertainment industry. This year besides the iconic special Cecil B. DeMille Award, the Hollywood Foreign Press just announced a new special award for television icons. Both recipients will be announced in the following days.

With mainstream TV series out of the competition, this year could be the chance for new stories to get some well-deserved recognition. Shows like The Haunting of Hill House, The Americans, Homecoming, GLOW, Kidding, and The Good Place are the favorites to lead this year’s nominations. In the case of actors and actresses in television, the favorites to take home the Golden Globe are Sandra Oh (who’s co-hosting the show with Andy Samberg) for her role on Killing Eve, Richard Madden (Bodyguard), and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel).

In the film field, the competition looks a bit tighter and not very predictable, which could be a constant in the other award shows of the season. Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma is one of the favorites to take home many awards, but for the Golden Globes, it will only be eligible in the Foreign Language Picture category. So, this allows other favorites to take over the category: films like A Star Is Born, First Man, Widows, and even Marvel’s Black Panther (the Golden Globes is more open than the Academy Awards). As for actors, the list is lead by Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born), Charlize Theron (Tully), Ryan Gosling (First Man), and Christian Bale (Vice).

So, here’s the full list of nominees for this year’s Golden Globe Awards:
