Award season has finally begun, and it is stronger than ever. Over the last couple of years, the Golden Globes have changed from being a party where celebrities get recognized while getting drunk, to an important stage to denounce current problems that demand attention, not only in the entertainment industry, but also in society (let’s remember last year’s black dress protest at the Globes).
My favorite moments of the evening were those with Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh, two of the best Golden Globes hosts in the last few years. They opened with their characteristic ironic humor, making fun of political correctness and what a double standard it has become at this point. They criticized everyone’s social media sensitivity with bland comments on guest stars and very “correct” comebacks, smartly pointing at how ridiculous this attitude can be, while also making us all laugh our heads off.
There were also other incredible moments, like when Jeff Bridges received the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and Carol Burnett got the very first Golden Globes Television Special Achievement Award. Also, Dick Van Dyke made a small appearance that moved all Mary Poppins fans. The Golden Globes are for sure catching up with the social needs of our time, and this night was definitely a good start for this year’s award season. With some our expectations met, and some surprises here and there, this is the list of all the winners of this year’s Golden Globe Awards:

This Golden Globes night was Sandra Oh’s and Alfonso Cuaron’s night. Sandra nailed it as a host and showed us a very outstanding comic and entertaining side of her, not to mention that she also took home the award for Best Actress in a Television Series (Drama) for her performance in Killing Eve. Cuarón got two Globes out of the three nominations for his masterpiece Roma, showing that Mexico has a lot to offer as a country where great creators are born and artistic sensibility is fostered. Who were your favorite moments of the night? Do you think the awards did justice to each category? Let’s see if the Oscars can finally make up their minds and choose a host that can fulfill the public’s expectations.
