The first full moon of 2022 has unveiled the trailer for the next Disney+ series and with it, we shall welcome our next Marvel superhero, “Moon Knight“. But where did he come from?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe still has many characters to offer and so far, all the series that they have released on Disney+ work as solid proof of the amazing and successful world they have created for us. With that said, it is now time to direct our attention towards “Moon Knight“, a new superhero that we’ve never seen on screen before and that will debut on March 30 with the first season of his own series starring Oscar Isaac. But just in case you were wondering where this character came from and why this new release is so exciting for Marvel fans, today we bring you his full story.

The Origin

This is the story of Marc Spector, a guy born in Chicago. He comes from a Jewish family that escaped from Czechoslovakia to the USA, there his father befriended Yitz Perlman, a former soldier who had lived in the US for many years and secretly dedicated himself to attacking Jews in that same country.

One day, young Marc accidentally discovered the secret intentions of Perlman and that led the soldier to try to anhilitate him so that his secret would not be revealed. In that moment, Marc tries to save his life at all cost,s and thanks to this traumatic experience, he develops a dissociative identity disorder that makes him create two more personalities, Steven Grand and Jake Lockley, that will help him in his superhero development later on.

Seeing that he is not mentally healthy, Marc is put in a psychiatric hospital where he spends the first part of his life until his father dies and he has to attend his funeral. That's when, after fighting with his mother for suddenly changing personalities, Marc takes the chance to finally escape and never come back to that hospital again. In the next few years, he became part of the navy and the CIA, jobs from which he was fired precisely because of his mental disorder and something that led him to work as a boxer and a mercenary.

On that note, Marc gets to work with Raoul Bushman and the Alraunes to plunder the tomb of a pharaoh that had recently been found by Peter Alraune and his daughter Marlene. They, along with some more archeologists, undertake the journey altogether on the look for the tomb, but once the exact location of the treasure is revealed, Bushman turns against Peter and most of the team there. Immediately, Marc tries to stop Raoul from committing those crimes but he ends up beaten almost to death and left alone in the middle of the desert.

With his last energies, he manages to crawl near the tomb that he intended to plunder. Once he arrives, he meets the God Khonshu for the first time and he accepts to become his avatar with the condition that he saves his life. That's how his new life begins.

The beginning of this superhero

When he comes back to the United States, Marc decides to invest his savings and slowly develops a significant fortune with which he buys a place and necessary equipment to turn himself into a crime fighter. He also uses both of his personalities, Steven Grand as a millionaire and Jake Lockley as a taxi driver, in order to be able to carry out his purpose as a man reached by an Egyptian god who has an insatiable desire to make justice.

It isn't until he has to fight with The Werewolf, that he acquires his strength based on the Moon phases, and from that very moment, he spends his life combating all kinds of villains and occasionally working with some other superheroes in order to achieve his purpose.

Some comparisons

“Moon Knight“ has been closely associated with Batman at some point, which is kind of logical since both of them are millionaires who happen to fight for justice thanks to a criminal experience in their past, but there are still quite some important differences between them that could even make them a great combo if they were from the same world.

First of all, Marc is a guy who was actually diagnosed with a mental disorder, and even though Bruce Wayne´s mental capacities have been questioned in his story, they are not the same in that aspect.

And second of all, when the God Khonshu saved his life, Marc was given supernatural qualities like abnormal strength, reflexes, and resistance, and those gifts were extremely powerful, especially during a full moon, something that Batman does not have. So even though these two superheroes seem pretty similar on the outside, their actual abilities, battles, and personalities are very different from each other, and that is what makes this new character so exciting to watch in his new series on Disney+
