The similarities between Boo and Abby are amazing, but could it be they are the same person?
‘Turning Red’ became a favorite of young and old since its premiere, thanks to its sincere and timely way of bringing to the table issues that are rarely talked about in animated movies.
The way of portraying puberty and all the changes that this stage in the life of a human being entails was so attractive that it lent itself to talking about it for hours.
Beyond the comments that ‘Turning Red’ has provoked (both positive and negative) a new theory appeared and it’s totally related to another Pixars favorite: ‘Monsters, Inc.’.

On previous occasions we have witnessed how Disney Pixar animators have played with references and cameos between movies, an example, the appearance of ‘Lotso’ from ‘Toy Story 3′ in ‘Up’ or when Boo gives him a stuffed animal of ‘Nemo’ from the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ in ‘Monsters Inc.’. There is even this theory that claims all Pixar movies are related and happens in an apocalyptic universe.
The theory that connects ‘Turning Red’ with ‘Monsters, Inc.’
Disney Pixar is a whole universe. And ‘Turning Red’ is no stranger to it, as some users have detected a great connection between the film in question with ‘Monsters, Inc.’, which incredibly was released almost 21 years ago.
According to the strange theory, Abby, Mei Lee’s friend could be the teenage version of none other than little Boo, the girl who stole our hearts when she entered the world of monsters and went through the famous door.
Why could Abby be Boo? For starters, we never knew Boo’s real name. Add to that the physical characteristics of both characters: they both have round faces, light brown eyes, brown hair, and a distinctive fringe; while their dress style is very similar, between sweet colors like pink and purple.
Moreover, they match in their explosive personality, adding to the fact that Abby is the only one of Mei Lee’s friends who did not freak out when the protagonist turns into the red panda, just as Boo did not when she saw Sully for the first time. And it was her who asked for a tight hug, maybe the red panda reminded Sulley?
However, the theory could be disproved when the time comes to do the math. Let’s remember that 2001 ‘Monsters, Inc.’ is situated in 2011 and Boo is approximately two years old. While Abby, according to the movie, which is set in 2002, is about 13 years old.
Do they look alike or are they pure speculation? And we must also consider that Disney Pixar animators have also been responsible for giving a very similar personality to all their characters.
