20 Songs That Show Why Country Music Is The Best To Get Over Heartbreak

21 de septiembre de 2018

Country songs might be the best choice to channel our emotions after a heartbreak thanks to their relatability and easy-going rhythms.

This is going to sound extremely ignorant, but for a long time I used to (or chose to) believe that country music was all about cowboys and western stuff. Of course, it’s a theme, but it wasn’t until I experienced my first big breakup that (I have no idea how) I listened attentively to my first country song. Let me tell you, country is the best thing for these occasions, even better than ballads or those cheesy pop songs you love to play to cry your eyes out. Not only are they very emotional and relatable, but the music also has something that lures you to binge-listen to those chords on and on. There's something about the melancholy of its rhythms and that particular singing style that transmits such emotions that it’s hard not to let yourself go and use them as therapy to move on when you’re experiencing heartbreak. If that’s your case, take a look at this list that will prove you why country music is the best for these moments (though the happy and bubbly ones are really cool too).

1. "Colder Weather" by Zac Brown Band

-

2. "Don't Make Me" by Blake Shelton

-

3. “Break Up In The End” by Cole Swindell

-

4. “Better as a Memory" by Kenny Chesney

Have you ever loved someone so much and then realized you shouldn't be together? You know that you’ll end up hurting them (you’re going to suffer as well), but you know it’s for the best. That’s what this song is all about: the realization that the relationship doesn't have a future and that it's best to cherish the good memories and move on.

-

5. "Brokenheartsville" by Joe Nichols

-

6. "Cheatin'" by Sara Evans

-

7. "Drinkin' Me Lonely" by Chris Young

-

8. "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood

I think we all have a little crazy hiding in us, so instead of letting it out, let’s enjoy this song and transfer all our emotions and anger as if we were the ones damaging that cheater’s car.

-

9. "Kerosene" by Miranda Lambert

-

10. "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" by Lee Ann Womack

-

11. "Picture to Burn" -- Taylor Swift

-

12. "How Do You Like Me Now?!" by Toby Keith

I know it’s kind of vengeful, but isn’t it just beautiful when karma plays its cards? This song is all about this person investing everything to make the person he loved to feel the same way back, and instead, he only received rejection and bullying. Now things changed, he's moved on, and things didn’t work that well for her. It’s creepy, I know, but sometimes what we need to lift our spirits a little bit.

-

13. "Nobody to Blame" by Chris Stapleton

-

14. "Liar Liar" by Aubrie Sellers

-

15. “Must've Never Met You” by Luke Combs

-

16. “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum

This song became an international hit a couple of years ago mainly because of the emotional link we all found to that highly relatable story. I mean, we all go through this after a breakup, it’s that urge to call back that person because you miss them even when things didn’t work out at all.

-

17. “Once” by Maren Morris

-

18. "You'll Think of Me" by Keith Urban

-

19. "Either Way" by Chris Stapleton

-

20. "Another Try" by Josh Turner

The list is over and I don’t want to spend the rest of my life in this sorrow, so let’s give us some reassurance with this last song. This one deals with the realization that things are bad and that we might be deep in the darkness, but at the end of the day this will pass and we must give love “another try.”

As you can see there are so many ways to experience heartbreak, and these songs show those attitudes. In some of the songs we can see the voice deciding to take the mature path and rationalize their failed love, in others they blame it on their partners and keep carrying that anger, while there are others where they just want to take revenge in whatever way possible. What I love about both perspectives is that they help you channel your frustrations and emotions rather than just letting yourself go. Seriously, give it a try!
