Britney Spears conservatorship is finally over as declared at a hearing at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Britney is finally free!
After almost 14 years in living hell, Britney Spears is finally free! This Friday, the conservatorship was ended at a hearing in Los Angeles County Superior Court meaning that very soon, the Princess of Pop is going to have access to her 60 million fortune, and more importantly, the freedom to anything she wants. All the restrictions imposed by the conservatorship that started in 2008, will no longer apply.
Although for over a decade, Britney's hell was kept silent, it wasn't until this year when the #freebritney movement really gained power helping Britney's case to move faster and finally get her to freedom this Friday. After several hearings, including Britney's own testimony on the abuse she had endured for over the past 13 years, on September 29, Jamie Spears was finally removed as co-conservator.
For the past 13 years, Jamie Spears had absolute control over her daughter's fortune and life, even restricting her from buying anything or even forcing her to get birth control and prevent her from getting pregnant, as the singer declared in June. Just one month after the heartbreaking testimony, Britney was granted the chance to get her own attorney.
Britney Spears' case hasn't only shed light on the toxic way in which the media treats celebrities but also on US laws regarding conservatorships. Britney's case is now helping attorneys and activists to make reforms on this matter and help people with way less public visibility get out of these abusive systems.
As for today, we can say it's a day of celebration for Britney, her children, her close ones, and, of course, the millions of fans that helped the movement lead to Britney's freedom.
