Good afternoon, Upper East Siders. You won’t believe the news today: Gossip Girl is coming back with a reboot of the series produced by none other than Warner Media in partnership with the upcoming streaming service of HBO Max. Yes, these producers will deliver 10 episodes with brand new characters and, who knows, maybe some cameos of our dearly beloved New Yorkers, whom we followed for six long years through their on and off relationships and schemes.
It’s been seven years since we bid farewell to these Upper East Siders and many rumors had been swirling around about a reboot or a reunion with the original cast, and the latter is finally happening. Gossip Girl was a pop culture phenomenon for Millennials, based on the successful homonymous YA novel series written by Cecily von Ziegesar depicting the glamorous struggles of the Manhattan elite.
However, the original six seasons had a main character: fashion. We followed Serena Van Der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and the rest of the gang, but sometimes it was hard to keep track of the plot as we were dazzled by the top fashion trends of the late 2000s and early 2010’s. If you haven’t watched the original show, it has been available on Netflix for a long time, so no more excuses; go binge watch it over the weekend.
The new season is expected to hit the screen around spring 2020. But things are going to change for this new Gossip Girl. The plot will depict how we communicate nowadays. Remember, back in 2007, gossip was shared on a blog, so now this new generation of teenagers will explore the influence of social media in our society. Though original cast members have not been confirmed for this new season, the series will have some of those involved in the original production, such as executive producers and companies like Alloy Entertainment, Fake Empire, Warner Bros. Television, and CBS Television Studios.
Well, there you have it. Happy to share the ultimate tea from the New York elite. Can’t wait to see it! You know you love me, XOXO.
