In his book Crowds and Power, Elias Canetti suggests there are two types of crowds: the open and the closed. The open crowd has a large number of members; it can be disorganized and dissolved easily. On the other hand, the closed crowd is of limited membership, where they all share ideals and convictions, creating a solid crowd that is harder to break. Perhaps this is why some social media apps have been created with a very specific target audience in mind.
Here are just a few of the most bizarre apps you might encounter:
LIVR
To gain access to this platform, you need to have a couple drinks in you, since you can only access it by proving your alcohol level through a breathalyzer you can connect to your Smartphone. The purpose of this is to connect with other people who are only drinking, possibly leading to some interesting conversations or finding somewhere to party together.

Catmoji
This is Pinterest for cats. Feline pet owners register their furry companions and create a profile to upload images. Comments can even be made to look as if they were written by cats.

Cloak
This app is perfect to help you avoid particular people. Cloak breaks the mold from social media intended to connect people; after becoming a user, you can look up the whereabouts of your contacts and avoid bumping into them.

MeetAtTheAirport
It seems like a lot of people enjoy the risk and adrenaline rush arising from an encounter between two strangers. This app helps keep you company during your layover. It locates others who are also stuck in the terminal looking for someone to talk to.

A Small World
This is by far the most elitist social media out there. In order to gain access, you first need to prove you’re either a millionaire or a celebrity. Otherwise, you won’t be able to even register or create a profile.

Jail Inmates
This app is made for inmates in the USA to keep in contact with one another. But it’s also possible for any free citizen to access the platform, look at images, and even write to detainees.

Intellect Connect
This is social media for geniuses. To become a user you first need to pass a test designed to weed out people with low IQs. You also need to show proof the necessary academic background to get in touch with other users, activities, and debate nights.

RemCloud
Who’s ever woken up wanting to tell the whole world what they dreamt of? Well this app was designed for exactly that. You write the plot of your dream so that others can read, share, and comment on it. It provides the option of anonymity and connects you with other dreamers whose dreams have similar themes, while also providing the most recurring dreams among users.

Hatebook
This app is similar to Facebook with the exception that there’s a higher number of haters. It was designed to unleash all the rage you’re harboring and receive an equal amount of hate in return.

The ugly bug ball
Most of our social media timelines are plastered by phony vanity and pretension. This platform is for those who claim themselves as ugly while also searching for social acceptance from others. They might even be searching for someone to start a friendship or romance with.

We all have our quirks that might be seen as odd until we encounter others with these same bizarre tastes. These social media apps come off as weird, but if they’re out there, it means there’s at least a few people who use and love them.
