The iSphere is a spherical, clear mask that covers the entire head, and allows the user to walk freely on the street and take public transport without the risk of contracting an airborne disease.
Created by the German collective, Plastique Fantastique, the iSphere’s design is inspired by sci-fi comic books from the 1950s and utopian movements from the 1960s, which gives it a futuristic air that makes you look like an astronaut on an alien planet.
Due to the existence of the virus, with which we have to learn to live, the German collective decided to make this sphere to address the health crisis in a fun and creative way.
Although we have many options to cover our face and avoid the virus, what makes the iSphere more attractive is that it is an open-code project, so anyone can download the design and make their own at home in under 30 minutes.
The materials you’ll need can be bought easily, and it costs less than 20 euro, which makes it an affordable alternative for most people.
Also, since its design is so simple, the iSphere can be customized according to your needs: you can add an umbrella, a microphone,a loudspeaker, or even a breathing tube.
This virus is changing the way we relate to others, and it doesn’t stop at national borders or care about our gender, class, or ethnicity, so it’s up to us to find alternatives that allow us to adapt and live life as “normally” as we can.
