As living beings on planet Earth, we recognize that we will need its resources to survive. Whether it’s air, water, land, etc., we depend 100% on the planet to survive. Somehow we have found a way to live beyond what is basically required.
We develop technology, conveniences, food, accessories, etc., without considering the true implications of excess. Humankind is running down natural resources, and the only way to rescue livelihoods is to create new forms of consumption, more sustainable ones.
In this sense, designers in the fashion industry have created a unique vegan leather from apple peel. A total of 20% of global water waste comes from this industry, in addition to 8% of greenhouse gases.
Taking these data into account, the industry must transform itself. SAMARA is the first brand to offer 100% sustainable fashion accessories. How was it achieved?
Behind the Vegan Apple Peel Leather
Salima and Samara are two sisters who started building the SAMARA brand as a sustainable fashion option. As big followers of animal cruelty-free, sustainable and elegant fashion, they decided to take a new path.
It all started with small, minimalist, eco-friendly handbags with little to no details to guarantee their natural quality. In addition to apple leather, the brand also expanded its range of raw materials to include vegan leather, castor beans, bamboo, recycled ocean plastics, and recycled plastic bottles.

After spending more than a year devising a vegan apple peel leather, an optimal and very elegant result was achieved. Standing out for minimalism, SAMARA’s products are PVC-free and lean towards the water and other natural resources that can be returned to the natural cycle without major implications.
In addition, each purchase supports The Soular Backpack, an initiative of Salima to provide solar backpacks to children in Kenya so they can have access to electricity throughout the day or night.
This is another product that has realized that petroleum derivatives and other toxic materials are not part of a sustainable future. Now, the challenge is to innovate or die.
