The former Bachelor star, who led the 2019 season of the ABC reality dating franchise, Colton Underwood, has revealed that he is gay in an interview with Robin Roberts that aired Wednesday on “Good Morning America.”
“I’ve ran from myself for a long time,” Underwood said in the interview. “I’ve hated myself for a long time. And I’m gay. And I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know.”
“I’m emotional, but I’m emotional in such a good, happy, positive way. I’m like the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been in my life and that means the world to me,” he said in the interview

Underwood, 29, said that coming to understand his sexuality has been a “journey,” he had reached a low in 2020, he said, that led to thoughts of self-harm and suicide.
Colton Underwood became a contestant on the 14th season of The Bachelorette, and was then announced as the lead of the 23rd season of The Bachelor in 2018. He was a football tight end at Illinois State and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Diego Chargers in 2014.
