The historical series Vikings has had a resounding success and its 6th season promises not to disappoint anyone interested in this period of time, after all it is a production by history channel, guaranteeing accuracy in the way they portray this ancient civilization, and their constant struggle that many years ago took place between paganism and Christianity.
Even though many of the Vikings characters are based on historical figures and events that actually happened, writers took some liberties so as not to lose the thread of the series and to give it a plot of a series.
Ragnar Lothbrok and Rollo
In Vikings series, Rollo and Ragnar are brothers. Rollo is an impulsive and jealous man, while Ragnar is driven by his belief in his own greatness. They both have a love-hate relationship and the two of them are very important through the first seasons; however, they were never really brothers. Rollo was the Duke of Normandy, but it’s historically unconfirmed if he was a real Viking.

Ragnar and his sons
All of his sons were historical figures and great leaders, however, it can’t be confirmed that they were truly his sons but they had a great impact on the history and formation of Europe. Bjron Ironside was a real Swedish Viking chief, Ivar The Boneless and Ubbe invaded England, Sigurd became King of Denmark.
So their existence is real, but the fact of them being sons of Ragnar Lothbrok is unconfirmed but it’s not impossible.

Their Aesthetic
The characters always look attractive and interesting and this look isn’t fake. They actually wore black face paint and extravagant hairstyles, seeking to achieve a look that would make them look powerful and brave. They had some traditions when they fought and traditional looks to intimidate anyone with eye makeup like that.
Their aesthetic is real.

The timeline
Unfortunately, the most exciting events aren’t close to each other; time has been changed to connect the greatest moments together, for example, Vikings invading England or Lagertha being able to be a Viking before Ragnar was a Earl and being on the raid of Paris, could never been possible, because there are dozens of years between this events.

No horned helmets
It has long been believed that Vikings wore horned helmets, which is totally fake; and the series sought to disprove this myth by omitting them from the battles. Although they did wear a type of helmet, the well-known horned helmet is definitely not the real one.

Was Ragnar Lothbrok real?
Unlike many other characters of the series, his existence actually can’t be confirmed, there are many well-known Norwegian legends about him and his greatness as a warrior, definitely, the news that he may never have existed may be disappointing for the fans.
Though his existence can’t be confirmed, Norwegian legends name him as the father of some legendary Vikings like Bjorn Ironside and Ivar the Boneless as his sons.
So, Ragnar’s existence is unconfirmed.
