China's yuntai mountain waterfall scam

Yuntai Mountain waterfall is one of the most touristic places in China, which has been recognized as the highest waterfall in the Asian country at 300 meters high and is included in the UNESCO list, since the place protects ancient geological formations that date back more than a billion years.

But apparently, everything has been a hoax on the part of the Chinese authorities, since a tourist who attended the place revealed a video in which he discovered that the water fall is not natural, but is supplied by a secret water pipe.

The video, shared on social networks, has caused a great impact in the Asian country, since the touristic place was considered the highest uninterrupted waterfall in China and that was how it attracted the thousands of tourists who visited it every year.

Authorities apology for the scam

After being shared on networks, the video quickly reached more than 70K likes and generated thousands of comments and millions of views, which caused local government officials to be sent to the park to investigate what happened.

After evaluation, it was announced by the operators of the Yuntai tourist park that “small improvements” were made during the dry season so that visitors wouldn’t be disappointed if they arrived and there was no waterfall.

They also indicated that the water they used to pump water to the falls was spring water, and added that it wouldn’t harm the natural landscape and that everything that was done was for the benefit of tourists.

However, officials had to publicly apologize to those who felt deceived and asked the national park that if such “improvements” are made they must be announced to the public in advance and that they hoped they would learn a lesson from what had happened.

But this is not the first time that artificial measures have been used to “help” famous waterfalls in China.

Huangguoshu Waterfall, a famous touristic destination in the southwestern province of Guizhou, has been helped by a project to divert water since 2006 to maintain its flow during the dry season.
