During a campaign event in Phoenix, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance made a statement that has sparked significant controversy and debate.
JD Vance is Being Canceled for Saying School Shootings are a ‘Fact of Life’
Addressing the tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, Vance remarked that school shootings have become a “fact of life” in the United States. But many people aren’t taking the comment very well.

Vance expressed his dismay at the regularity of such incidents, stating:
“I don’t like that this is a fact of life. But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines…our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools”.
The statement has drawn mixed reactions from the public and political commentators. Critics argue that Vance’s comments normalize the occurrence of school shootings and fail to address the root causes of gun violence.
Supporters, on the other hand, agree with his call for stronger security measures, viewing it as a pragmatic approach to an ongoing issue.

For her part, Kamala Harris has reacted negatively to JD Vance’s comment on social media:
“School shootings are not just a fact of life.It doesn’t have to be this way. We can take action to protect our children—and we will.”

The divide between Republicans and Democrats on gun control has deepened, with one side focused on protecting gun owners’ rights while the other pushes for stricter regulations.
School Shooting Issue
According to Statista data, as of July 11, 35 incidents of school shootings were recorded in the United States in 2024, impacting K-12 school grounds and college campuses nationwide. In comparison, there were 82 school shooting incidents recorded in 2023.
This figure is alarming because those most at risk are always children and teachers who literally risk their lives every day to study or teach. It is unthinkable that we come to see this systemic problem as something that could happen any day and normalize it as if it meant nothing as it is for JD Vance.
