Every book-lover knows how essential it is to have a bookshelf— in some cases, perhaps two or more. Unfortunately, as much as we long for an enormous personal library, sometimes the space designated for our books is limited.
Still, that doesn’t mean that we cannot have a bookshelf that conveys our personality and passion for these lovely works!
Here are some ideas you might like to style your bookcases.
1. Align by colors
The incredible thing about this option is that there are many varieties of color combinations! Whether it’s monochromatic, analogous, complementary, light tones… you decide!

2. Organize by genres
If you are more of the readers who love different types of genre, why not assign a specific one to each shelf? Perhaps those of thriller and horror can be on the same level. Maybe your sci-fi and fantasy books should become neighbors by placing one genre below the other.

3. Temporary location
Hasn’t it happened to you that sometimes you forget the novels that are at the bottom or at the top of the bookshelf? Let’s be honest, there are books that end up being “the spoiled ones” (that is, the ones that we tend to read immediately).
In that case, it’s best to place the novels that we read the most as close as possible (ex. use the central shelf). Once you finish it, you can swap places with another so you don’t forget the rest.

4. Use the vertical space
This way of organizing is a great help for those who have a lot of books but no longer have a place to put them. Arrange your books taking advantage of the space so that they are stacked vertically.
Plus, these book stacks can be a great way to create a new type “bookshelf”!

5. Separate TBR book from the ones already read
Gather all the books you haven’t read yet and place them in their own special TBR (To Be Read) section so they don’t get lost among the ones you’ve read.
Although, this might be a bit challenging for those that continuously acquire a new title (a.k.a. your humble writer).

6. Arrange by state, country or continent
Hasn’t it happened to you that sometimes we find authors who share nationality? Or perhaps the plot of one title happens in the same place as another? This idea is fun as it gives a kind of literary map to your bookshelf.
Also, if you want to make it more creative, you can have a section of fantastic cities, countries or continents. Middle-earth and Narnia? Yes, please!

7. Put your favorite books in the center
Every reader has some favorite books. Those we could read over and over and yet never get tired of. In that case, why not place those special titles in the heart of your bookshelf (that is, in the center)?

8. Organize according to your emotions
One should never underestimate the power of reading. Some books are capable of provoking an uncontrollable laugh. Others are so heart-wrenching that can make us cry– and I mean an ugly cry level!

Anyways, if you tend to have an emotional connection with books, this method is an awesome way to distinguish what you’ve read according to how it made you feel.
