The first time I saw a bed made with pallets, a few years ago, I couldn’t believe it was a real thing people actually slept on. All my life, I’d only seen pallets at big box stores and construction sites, so when I saw two of them under a mattress, and my new roommate said that would be my bed, it was a lot to take in. It just didn’t look comfortable, and it made my bare, unfurnished room look even less homey.
However, once I decorated the space and found some cozy bedding and cushions, my very first pallet bed actually looked pretty good and got me lots of compliments when I showed it to my friends. Not to mention, it was more comfortable than I could’ve ever imagined, and I really liked the way it didn’t take up that much space in my room. Next to having my mattress lying directly on the floor, a bed made with pallets was as minimalistic as it gets, and I liked the clean lines it gave the space.

So, if you’re like me, and you won’t be able to afford a real bed anytime soon, here are some photos that’ll inspire you to give pallet beds a chance. Not only will it save you money and assembly time, but if you know how to “style” it, it’ll give your room a rustic and modern look that you’ll love.

Now, besides the obvious financial benefits, pallet beds have become even more of a thing in recent years thanks to their popularity on social media. Everyone loves them because they’re the perfect mix between bohemian and minimalist, simple and rustic. And this simplicity makes them a blank canvas that gives us the freedom to get creative and play with textures and accessories that maybe a regular bed wouldn’t allow for.

As a great bonus, it’s up to you whether you keep things single with a single level or stack your pallets for more height or storage purposes.

Also, don’t forget that you can always paint your pallets to make the wood look less rustic and to complement your room’s color scheme. Or, if you prefer, you can leave the pallets as they are: the wood’s natural color and texture is beautiful as it is and will give your space an effortless, relaxed vibe.

Take it from me, a happy and proud pallet bed owner: more than a good option for when you don’t know how long you’re staying somewhere or you can’t afford a “real” bed, they are a cool, comfortable, and super-sturdy alternative with endless decor potential. Hopefully, these pictures will give you the inspiration and motivation you need to give them a try. And maybe one day, like me, you’ll wonder why anyone would ever want boring, traditional bed, and you’ll never look back.
