After entertainment journalist Kjersti Flaa posted a ‘cringe’ interview with Anne Hathaway, the Norwegian journalist revealed that Oscar-winning actress recently reached out to apologize after the interview went viral over a decade ago. The interview, which occurred during the press junket for the 2012 film Les Misérables, had resurfaced recently and sparked discussion online after Flaa criticized Hathaway’s behavior in one of her YouTube videos.
Anne Hathaway’s ‘Rude’ Interview

Flaa, a seasoned celebrity interviewer, had opened the 2012 interview with an unconventional idea: she offered to sing her questions and invited Hathaway to respond in song as well. Hathaway, however, declined, saying, “Well, I won’t be doing that, but you’re more than welcome to sing.” The exchange set an awkward tone for the rest of the interview, with Hathaway giving one-word answers and appearing generally unresponsive.

At the time, Flaa had described the experience as “cringe,” noting that it was one of her more uncomfortable interviews. Fast forward to 2023, and after the video gained renewed attention online, Hathaway took the surprising step of reaching out to apologize for the interaction.
The Apology
In her latest YouTube video, Flaa shared her reaction to Hathaway’s unexpected apology. According to the journalist, Hathaway’s publicist contacted her with a heartfelt note from the actress. Hathaway explained that she had been going through a difficult time during the original interview, which contributed to the “awful” interaction. The actress expressed regret for her behavior and apologized for making the interview uncomfortable.
“I was pretty shocked,” Flaa admitted in her video. “I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she would never even see that video, but she did, and she did something pretty amazing.”
For Flaa, the apology was deeply moving. “It was a very personal note,” she said, adding that she had agreed not to share the exact contents of Hathaway’s email. However, the gesture left a significant impression on her. “Just talking about it makes me almost teary-eyed. I was just so grateful that she did that,” Flaa shared.
The journalist also extended an olive branch, offering to sit down with Hathaway for a more relaxed and positive conversation in the future. Interestingly, Flaa revealed that she had been invited to interview Hathaway again next May, providing an opportunity for a fresh start.

Flaa wrapped up her video by reflecting on the importance of Hathaway’s apology. “Sorry is such a powerful word,” she said. “It was a long time ago now, and I have no hard feelings about it.”
As Flaa concluded, “It was just so amazing that she reached out—it’s a testament to her character.”
This is not the first time Flaa has pointed out celebrities being rude to her, as she recently went viral for sharing a very uncomfortable Blake Lively interview.
