Long before Britney Spears published her memoir The Woman in Me, the public image of her ex, Justin Timberlake, had been marred by scandals and past behavior, such as when he tore off part of Janet Jackson’s wardrobe at a media presentation. Super Bowl time in 2004, or the time he admitted to being unfaithful to his wife.
Therefore, when Britney Spears revealed in her highly publicized memoir that the singer had forced her to undergo an abortion, public opinion reacted with contempt and even part of the press called him “the most hated man in the USA”.
Despite the accusations, Justin Timberlake has remained silent and tried to stay away from the controversy. Last week he announced his return to music with the song ‘Selfish’, but his comeback was sabotaged by Britney Spears’ faithful fans, who organized themselves through social networks to promote a song by the ‘Toxic’ singer, from the same song name of 2011 corresponding to her album Femme Fatale, which quickly rose to number one on several iTunes popularity charts in various countries.
The news seems to have reached Britney’s ears and although she was able to take advantage of a new moment of fame, she chose to dedicate some heartfelt words to her ex. Through her Instagram account, the main means of communication between artists and her fans, the singer published:
“I want to apologize for some of the things I wrote in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about, I am deeply sorry,” Britney wrote in her publication accompanied by a video of Justin in one of his performances on Jimmy Fallon’s show. The pop music icon also had words for her ex’s new song that has unleashed a pitched war on networks between the B-Army and the fans of the Sexyback singer.
“I also wanted to say that I’m in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song, ‘Selfish.’ It’s so good and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so much? PS: ‘Sanctified’ is….incredible.”
