Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas surprised fans in 2025 when rumors began swirling that they were dating — with photos of them holding hands and walking the actress’s dogs seeming to confirm it. But it looks like the relationship didn’t last long, and the internet already has its theory: she got spooked when he allegedly tried to bring her into his church/cult.
We kind of saw it coming. Back in August, reports hinted that the pair were traveling everywhere together, which fueled speculation about a romance. Still, those who know Tom’s past relationships suspected history might repeat itself — and apparently, it did.
Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas Call It Quits
According to The Sun, the couple’s spark “fizzled out” after less than a year together. Though they still enjoy each other’s company, they’ve decided to stay friends rather than continue romantically.

“Tom and Ana had fun together, but their time as a couple has ended. They’ll remain good friends, but they realized it just wasn’t going to go any further,” a source told the outlet.
Neither Tom nor Ana ever publicly confirmed their relationship, but paparazzi photos of them together made it clear they were more than friends. Now, however, fans believe the breakup might have something to do with Tom’s deep involvement in Scientology, a belief system that has reportedly played a part in several of his previous relationships.
In August, Daily Mail revisited how many of Cruise’s relationships follow the same pattern: everything begins with romance and affection — until he encourages his partner to take introductory Scientology courses.
The problem, according to reports, is what comes next. Once the women join, they’re allegedly introduced to the belief that “spiritual parasites” cling to their souls and must be exorcised over time through expensive auditing sessions.

Karen de la Carriere, a former high-ranking Scientologist, claimed that Cruise convinced Nicole Kidman to join the church and that she reached the level of OT II before their divorce. The same reportedly happened with Katie Holmes — but she allegedly drew the line when Cruise wanted to initiate their daughter into the church at just six years old.
Although neither Cruise nor de Armas has confirmed the reason for their split, many online are convinced that Ana saw the same red flags as his past partners. After all, each of Tom’s major relationships — with Kidman, Holmes, and others — has reportedly followed a similar arc: romance, involvement in Scientology, and eventual separation.
Whether or not religion was truly the reason, the internet has made up its mind. For now, both stars seem to be moving on — Cruise with his next big mission, and Ana focusing on her growing Hollywood career — but one thing’s for sure: when it comes to Tom Cruise’s love life, the “Church factor” always seems to make an appearance.
