Another day, another reason to call out one of the Kardashian-Jenners. It seems that the glory days of the controversial sisters are over and everything they do gets automatically criticized for on social media. Now, fans and Internet users are calling out Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the clan, for the release of her own Bratz collection.
Mini Bratz x Kylie Collectibles
Kylie Jenner excitedly shared the news of this collaboration on social media: “I have been a fan of Bratz since childhood, and I’ve always wanted my own Bratz doll. I have loved every step of the process this past year in creating these dolls alongside the Bratz team. I’m so excited they are here!”
It seems that anticipating the huge success of Barbie in movie theaters and the hype the dolls received this past year, Bratz, owned by MGA Entertainment, wanted to come up with a collection to bring back the hype towards their own doll. Apparently, the brand wants to launch several celebrity collaborations and Kylie Jenner was chosen to be the very first one expecting a huge welcome… it didn’t happen.
As long as the Mini Bratz x Kylie Collectibles collection was revealed, it was met with criticism from fans and Internet users. The collection includes six miniature dolls replicating some of Jenner’s most iconic and viral outfits, including her Met Gala looks.
Why Was Kylie Jenner’s Collab with Brats Criticized?
But why was it criticized? Fans immediately pointed out that the mini dolls’ complexion doesn’t really match the influencer’s skin tone. The dolls have evidently a darker hue than Jenners and this isn’t the first time Kylie or her sisters have been called out for Blackfishing or appropriating Black culture.
Not only that, but fans were also disappointed with the brand for choosing Kylie to represent their iconic dolls which were purposely made “off the likeness of Black and Latina women.” They pointed out there are way too many POC celebrities they could’ve collaborated with instead of enabling Jenner’s constant attempts to imitate black culture.
Now, it could be said that the dolls got the wrong skin shade in the manufacturing process, but even the promotional video shows a darker Kylie Jenner:
