Roger O’Donnell, the iconic keyboardist of The Cure, recently revealed on his social media that he has been battling a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer for the past year.
This news has deeply affected his fans and the music community, while also raising awareness about the importance of early detection.

“September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month so it’s a good opportunity to have a dialogue about these diseases. In September last year I was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
O’Donnell admitted that he initially ignored his symptoms, which led to a delayed diagnosis and treatment. “I had ignored the symptoms for a few months but finally went…. and after surgery the result of the biopsy was devastating,” he shared.

The musician explained that for the past 11 months, he has been undergoing treatment under the care of some of the best specialists in the world. Although the initial diagnosis was shocking, the doctors’ prognosis is encouraging, allowing O’Donnell to remain optimistic and full of hope.
“Cancer CAN be beaten, but if you are diagnosed early enough, you stand a way better chance. So all I have to say is go GET TESTED. If you have the faintest thought you may have symptoms, go and get checked out,” he urged.

He also expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support he has received during this challenging time and emphasized the importance of early detection in improving the chances of beating the disease. He urged everyone to be vigilant about any warning signs and consult a doctor immediately.
