U.S. President Joe Biden accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of launching an “unprovoked and unjustified” attack on Ukraine and of betting on a “premeditated war” that will lead to “catastrophic” losses. On Wednesday night, Russia’s president gave the green light to a military operation that has led to shelling in different Ukrainian cities.
‘Putin is responsible’: Joe Biden
“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable,” Biden said in a brief statement.
He explained that he will monitor the situation from the White House overnight and will meet with his G7 counterparts on Thursday morning before addressing Americans to “announce further consequences” against Russia for “this unnecessary act of aggression against Ukraine and global peace and security.”
“We will also coordinate with our NATO allies to ensure a strong response and unity to deter any aggression against the Alliance,” the U.S. president added.
