According to police spokesperson Genae Cook, the incident occurred shortly after 11pm at the FedEx facility, which employs some 4,500 people, and is located near the Indianapolis airport.

After opening fire, the suspected attacker is believed to have taken his own life. The police, on arrival, found casualties both inside and outside the warehouse.

Several people injured by gunshot wounds have been taken to hospitals. At least one of them was in a critical condition.

“We don’t feel that there is an active threat to the community at this time,” the spokesperson underlined.

Cook did not provide details about the attacker or his possible motives. However several witnesses have told local media entities that it was a white man who opened fire.
