While U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines yesterday with bold claims of brokering a potential ceasefire between Israel and Iran, the ground reality in Ukraine tells a vastly different story. Just hours after Trump’s remarks, Russian forces launched a full-scale missile and drone barrage across Ukraine, targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas. For Ukrainians, talk of peace means nothing.
Russia’s June 24 Strike on Dnipro, Ukraine: Schools, Hospitals, and a Train Targeted
On June 24, 2025, Russia launched a ballistic missile attack on the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro, killing seven civilians and injuring at least 70 more. Among the destruction were schools, kindergartens, medical centers, and even a passenger train. The strike was not aimed at military targets—it was designed to terrorize.

This attack underlines a grim truth: civilians remain the primary victims in this war. Buildings meant for children and healing were turned into rubble in seconds. Images from the aftermath show charred debris where classrooms once stood, and shattered hospital windows with blood-stained floors.

Kyiv Suffers One of the Largest Aerial Attacks Yet
Only a day earlier, in the early hours of June 23, Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv was hit by a massive drone-and-missile strike, among the most intense since the war began. Russia launched 368 aerial weapons, including Iskander missiles, cruise missiles, and Shahed kamikaze drones.

Despite Ukraine’s robust air defense systems—which intercepted the majority of incoming threats—nine people were killed, including an 11-year-old girl, and 33 others were injured. A five-story residential building collapsed in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, turning a peaceful neighborhood into a rescue zone.

Drones Hit Russian Oil Infrastructure
Ukraine didn’t remain silent. In retaliation, Ukrainian forces launched drone strikes on targets inside Russian territory, including a major oil depot in Rostov Oblast. This move underscores Ukraine’s growing ability to strike deep behind enemy lines, using technology and strategy to hit back where it hurts.
These attacks, however, are a stark contrast in scale. While Ukraine targets logistical and military infrastructure, Russia continues to bomb apartment blocks and maternity wards.
For Ukrainian people on the ground they feel dangerously disconnected from reality. Civilians continue to die. Cities remain under siege. And peace, for now, is not in the air—but missiles are.
