Kylie Jenner opened up about her challenging postpartum experience

Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, has been out of the spotlight in the past months, only using her social media to promote her billionaire brand Kylie Cosmetics. Though Kylie has set her own norms when it comes to her family and what she shares on social media, fans expected to see more about her newborn baby, Wolf, just as she did when Stormy was born.

It seemed that Jenner chose to do things differently this time. While she kept her first pregnancy a secret until the very last minute, when Stormy was born she couldn’t help but share her excitement on social media and post the cutest photos and videos of her baby girl. This time, it seems she’s doing it the other way around. She confirmed the rumors about her pregnancy in September 2021 and shared some cute pictures of her belly and her chic outfits. However, when baby Wolf was born, she simply uploaded a photo of her tiny hands with the caption “ 2/2/22.” That’s it; that’s the only thing she’s posted about her baby. Until now.

On March 15, the makeup mogul went back to her Instagram account to share some of her experiences after six weeks of giving birth. She presented herself like we hadn’t seen her before, in a more vulnerable and approachable way. The 24-year-old shared that postpartum hasn’t been easy for her: “it’s not easy mentally, physically, spiritually, it’s just crazy.” She carried on to say that it’s easy to see women sharing their beautiful experiences on motherhood and putting some extra pressure when things don’t seem to be working out for you as they do, which is interesting since pretty much that’s what her first pregnancy looked like on social media.

She wanted to share this message with other moms going through the same situation and encouraged them to allow themselves to enjoy every part of the journey even when things get complicated. “It’s OK not to be OK. Once I realized that I was putting some pressure on myself… And I just keep reminding myself I made a whole human, a beautiful healthy boy.”

Historically, women have always been pressured to appear perfect even after going through such an exhausting process as giving birth. Celebrity culture has made it even more challenging. We’ve seen it with royal women who are forced to appear perfectly recovered just hours after giving birth to present their babies, or celebrities who jump on social media to share their new blessings while looking perfect.

Kylie already experienced that with her first pregnancy, and even when she was feeling better, celebrities like her and her family are known for concealing all “imperfections” on their bodies to appear before the world as perfect beings. The entire family has received backlash for reinforcing unreachable and outdated beauty standards in an age where the attention is focused on body positivity and the acceptance of diversity.

Seeing Kylie appear before her millions of fans in that vulnerable way and talking about her struggles, is refreshing given their family’s history. And although it seems unlikely that they will change their ways, it would definitely make a change.
