A video shared on the social network TikTok has generated controversy among users because it shows a puppy diving at the bottom of the sea, complete with his diving suit and in the company of three people who are guiding him.
The controversy has broken out because although some saw the video as something tender and fearless since the dog ‘learned’ to dive, others point it out as if in reality this was a cruel way of treating a little animal. During the few seconds that the video lasts, you can see the dog being guided by three divers, who help it move forward, while the little animal looks around as if exploring the depths of the sea.
The video of a #perrobuceando (dog diving) has gone viral on social networks and has already accumulated millions of views. However, it has sparked a controversy over whether this ‘extreme sport’ is actually a cruel way of treating the animal.
Is it animal abuse to put a puppy diving?
Although it is evident that the little dog has all the safety measures by wearing a special suit for him, with a custom-made helmet, it is not known if the gestures he makes are really that he is happy or stressed. In this regard, there were several comments that were read from social media users where the majority indicated that this was animal abuse because the dog was being exposed to something just for fun since it clearly looked uncomfortable underwater and They described the submersion as “abusive.”
“I don’t know if it’s a human whim or it’s really an experience for the dog,” reads one of the comments.
“My God, I can’t imagine the stress that dog had to go through without understanding what he was doing there,” is another comment.
Some other users indicated that the dog‘s eardrums could be at risk because they are not used to the pressure that water could exert on their ears. There were also those who indicated that because they cannot smell their surroundings, it can cause confusion and distress because they would not know where they are since smell is one of the senses they use the most to be able to locate themselves.
“Without the sense of smell, this dog cannot understand where he is and what is happening, so he is confused and distressed. In fact, he is not having the best time of his life,” says another user.
It is not known if the dog has been doing this type of submersion for a long time and if it is already used to it, the truth is that many of the activities that humans do normally, they are simply not used to doing and it could have consequences for their health. What do you think, was he abused or not?
