A 12-year-old boy was arrested by Michigan police after stealing a forklift from his school. After taking the unit, the minor began driving through the streets of Ann Arbor, causing a spectacular police chase that became a social media trend.
Boy steals forklift from school
Police received an emergency call from Forsyth High School around 6:45 PM Saturday saying a forklift had been stolen. The authorities thought he had been taken by an adult, but when they began the chase, they realized he was a 12-year-old boy driving at 30 kilometers per hour through the city.
Around 8 PM, the boy finally stopped the forklift and was taken into custody. Police later discovered that the vehicle had been stored at the school, but the location was unlocked. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, although during his journey, the boy crashed into at least 10 cars.
The video of the boy’s chase
In footage released by police of the Ann Arbor chase, an officer can be heard asking the 12-year-old boy to stop after the forklift weighing more than 15 tons was stolen outside the high school. The boy, whose identity was not revealed because he is a minor, has already been booked into a juvenile detention center.
