Billie Eilish recently trended due to comments she made in a Billboard interview, criticizing artists who release multiple vinyl versions solely to drive sales. The singer referred to it as “wasteful,” accusing several music industry stars of doing so just to maintain their chart position.
Social media immediately speculated that she was referring to Taylor Swift (seriously, not everything has to do with Taylor). Billie’s remarks were linked to the ‘Lover’ singer because, in the latest release of her album Midnights, Tay Tay employed a clever marketing technique where fans had to buy 4 identical discs that, when combined, would form a clock. Even in an interview on The Graham Norton Show, the host made a playful jab at Swift about it being a clever way to sell more albums.
Billie Eilish Clarified That She Wasn’t Singling Anyone Out With Her Comments
In a new post on Sunday, Billie Eilish assured that she “wasn’t singling anyone out” and asked people to please read the full article because when she spoke about it, she was referring to “industry-wide systemic issues,“ and it wasn’t against any specific artist. Tired of people creating baseless theories, she shared,
“Okay so it would be so awesome if people would stop putting words into my mouth and actually read what I said in that Billboard article.”
“I wasn’t singling anyone out, these are industry-wide systemic issues,” the “What Was I Made For?” singer said.
Billie even confessed that she had participated in selling variants of her albums, like her album Happier Than Ever, which had eight different versions, and firmly believes it’s a practice that should be eliminated.
“And when it comes to variants, so many artists release them – including ME! which I clearly state in the article,” she continued. “The climate crisis is now and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better.”
“Sheesh,” Eilish concluded.
