Watch Hugh Jackman Leap Into a Stranger’s Car to Flee Fan Frenzy Outside NYC Theater

He might be Wolverine, but even Hugh Jackman can’t claw his way out of New York traffic.

The 56-year-old actor was caught on video making a surprise leap into a stranger’s car to escape a growing mob of fans outside the Minetta Lane Theatre, where he’s currently starring in the off-Broadway play Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes.

In the clip, obtained by Page Six, Jackman emerges from the stage door to find himself surrounded by a dense wall of fans—some hoping for selfies, others for autographs. With his bodyguard at his side and nowhere to go, Jackman flags down a black car idling nearby.

“Where are you headed?” he reportedly asked the driver. “Sixth Ave,” came the reply.

Good enough.

Jackman and his bodyguard climbed in—despite the car not being affiliated with Uber, Lyft, or any other rideshare service—and sped off through Manhattan like it was a scene from Now You See Me.

Hugh Jackman’s Viral Exit—and His Tougher Entrance to Broadway

The escape was cinematic, but the circumstances around it are less glamorous.

Jackman’s one-man show, a literary drama that debuted on Broadway earlier this year, is reportedly struggling with ticket sales. According to The Daily Mail, prices for upcoming performances have been slashed to $98 for Friday night and as low as $60 for Saturday’s matinee. That’s a steep drop from the standard Broadway benchmark—and a far cry from nearby shows like Paul Simon’s, where seats are fetching upwards of $680.

Even the best seats in Jackman’s theater? Just $212.

From Divorce Headlines to Broadway Hustle

The on-stage drama comes shortly after the off-stage one.

Jackman is still navigating public fallout from his divorce from longtime wife Deborra-Lee Furness, who filed in New York this May after nearly three decades of marriage. The two share two adopted children and had announced their separation back in 2023.

Since the split, Jackman has reportedly moved on with actress Sutton Foster, 50, whom he began dating roughly a year ago.

When Fame Turns Into Flight

Jackman’s Broadway run may be facing challenges—but the viral moment proves one thing: he still knows how to make an exit.

Whether this impromptu ride was a PR win or just a stressed celebrity’s reflex move, it’s the kind of scene that reminds us why New York is never boring—and why even A-listers sometimes have to improvise their way out of the spotlight.
