On Monday, the Buenos Aires police and the Argentine Prosecutor’s Office released their first report following the autopsy of former One Direction member Liam Payne, who tragically passed away on Wednesday after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel.
What Was Liam Payne’s Cause of Death?
The preliminary autopsy report on Liam Payne, who died in Buenos Aires after falling from the third floor of a hotel, revealed he succumbed to “polytrauma” and suffered both “internal and external bleeding,” according to local police on Thursday. The 31-year-old musician and composer fell from his hotel balcony in the Palermo neighborhood.
The autopsy, conducted by forensic experts Santiago Maffia Bizzozero and Víctor Cohen from the Supreme Court of Justice’s forensic medical corps, confirmed that Payne’s death was due to the fall.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the hotel manager reported hearing a loud noise from the hotel’s rear courtyard. When officers arrived, they confirmed Payne’s death, stating he had fallen from his room’s balcony.
The director of Buenos Aires’ emergency medical services, Alberto Crescenti, told local media that Payne’s fall caused “severe injuries that led to his immediate death.” Crescenti also noted in an interview with TN channel that “there was no possibility of resuscitation.”
What Was Found in Liam Payne’s Room?
Investigators discovered medication and alcohol in Payne’s hotel room. Forensic personnel conducting a visual inspection in the courtyard where Payne’s body was found recovered a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and a cell phone, and lifted fingerprints from these items.

Inside Payne’s room, officials found significant disorder, including broken items. Several blister packs of medications were seized, including Clonazepam, energy supplements, and over-the-counter drugs. Investigators also recovered a laptop and passport, which the prosecutor’s office ordered to be handed over to the police. Police also inspected the balcony area to determine how Payne had accessed it.
