Motherhood is often seen as a beautiful stage where women find fulfillment, but for some, like Lily Allen, it’s also a huge sacrifice that isn’t talked about enough.

Having a child not only means new responsibilities but also temporarily giving up things we used to do or enjoy to fully embrace the role of motherhood, something millions of women experience, including the singer.

Recently, on the Radio Times podcast, Allen poured her heart out to talk more about her private life and her views on motherhood.

In the interview, the artist mentioned that her parents’ absence when she was young directly influenced how she chose to act with her daughters.

Lily Allen completely changed her life when she welcomed Ethel Mary, her first daughter, in 2011, and two years later, little Marnie Rose with her then-husband Sam Cooper.

As soon as her daughters were born, Allen knew that her place, at that moment, was with her little ones, so she decided to leave her career and dedicate herself entirely to caring for Ethel and Marnie.

“Some people choose their career over their children, and that’s their prerogative. But my parents were quite absent when I was a kid, and I feel like that really left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to, you know, repeat on mine,” Allen said.

However, she soon realized that by choosing motherhood, she had to give up her professional success.

“My children ruined my career, I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, they totally ruined it,” she said.

That’s why she stated, “It really annoys me when people say you can have it all because, frankly, you can’t.”

Her statements quickly sparked controversy and triggered mixed opinions among users who either agree or disagree with her.
