Red Light for O Yeong-Su: The Squid Game Actor Is Accused of Harassment

The South Korean Prosecutor’s Office requested this Friday a one-year prison sentence for the veteran actor, O Yeong-su, 79, recognized for his participation in the world-acclaimed Netflix series, Squid Game, after being reported by a woman for sexual harassment in 2017. According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, O Yeong-Su was reported to the authorities in November 2022 for having hugged and kissed a woman on the cheek, without prior consent, during a theater tour.

At the hearing held in a court in the city of Seongnam (south of Seoul), prosecutors asked, in addition to the sentence of one year in prison, that he be prohibited from working with children or adolescents, in addition to ordering the public disclosure of your resume. O Yeong-Su, who has always denied the accusations, said this Friday that he felt “a lot of pain and agony” as if “his life was falling apart,” according to Yonhap. The sentence will be handed down on March 15.

In 2022, the actor won the Golden Globe for Best Actor for his veteran role in the series Squid Game. O began his acting career in the sixties in the theater, where he has given life to all kinds of characters in classical and Western theater. He was part of the Korean National Theater Company before making the big leap into television production and cinematography.
