Dogg, who is part of NBC and Peacock’s prime-time coverage for the games, participated in the ceremony by carrying the Olympic torch before the controversial opening event commenced.
Simone Biles and Snopp Dog: An Awkward Crossover
As athletes made their way down the Seine River, Snoop Dogg joined The Today Show host Hoda Kotb in the drizzle for an interview with the Biles family. Notably absent was Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history with four gold medals, who was resting up for Sunday’s women’s qualifiers, as her mother Nellie explained.

It wasn’t the first time the ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ interpreter had crossed paths with Biles’ mother. Apparently, in 2010, the rapper made Nellie and Simone wait during a meeting.
When Kotb reminded Snoop Dogg of this past encounter, the rapper seemed puzzled. Kotb recounted, “We asked for a picture, and you said, ‘Just two minutes.’ But before we knew it, you were gone.”
Luckily, the group laughed off the awkward exchange.

On Sunday, the rapper showed his support by donning a white tracksuit emblazoned with the American flag and a T-shirt featuring Simone Biles’ face as he watched her and Team USA’s gymnastics squad compete at Bercy Arena.
Other celebrities, including Tom Cruise and Lady Gaga, were also in attendance as the team showcased their elaborate leotards, each adorned with thousands of crystals and priced at $3,000.

Biles had a standout performance, earning a total score of 59.566 on Sunday, setting her up for a busy finals week starting Tuesday. Despite a minor calf strain and a noticeable limp, she scored 14.600 in her routine, securing her place in the finals for all four individual events.
She led in vault and floor exercises, placed second on beam, and eighth on uneven bars. Notably, she achieved a score of 15.300 on the vault, nearly a full point ahead of her American teammate Jade Carey.
This marks a significant return for Biles after a 732-day break from major competitions, taking time off from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 to focus on her mental health.
US coach Cecile Landi commented on the day’s events, expressing hope for Biles’ continued success in team and individual finals. The gymnast aims to become the oldest American woman to win Olympic gold in gymnastics.
