Sophie Turner had a beautiful baby with Joe Jonas, and although in photos she appeared completely happy about the news, the reality is that not everything is as it seems, as the ‘Game of Thrones’ actress recently confessed that she doubted whether to continue with her pregnancy. “Maybe because I was so young, I sat on it for a week,” she declared.
The actress revealed that she got scared when she found out the news because she was only 24 years old and had just married the famous pop singer Joe Jonas, to whom she told about her pregnancy when he was returning from a trip.
“I remember throwing the pregnancy test at him, saying, ‘What do you think we should do? Do you think we should have it?’” she told Vogue. “When you’re in your early 20s, life is so frivolous.”
Despite not being sure at the time if she felt ready to be a mother, the young woman had a conversation with her then-husband that made everything change, and suddenly, she simply decided that she wanted to have a baby.
That’s how Turner gave birth to her daughter, Willa, in July 2020. Sophie revealed that fortunately, there were therapists who helped her talk things through.
Sophie faced sexism when she was called a bad mother by the tabloids
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas announced their divorce after 4 years of marriage in September 2023, and from that moment on, the actress had to confront a huge wave of sexism that not only immediately blamed her for the end of the relationship, but worse still, made her appear as the villain in a poorly told story.
Shortly after the news of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ divorce broke, TMZ released a reckless headline: “She likes to party, he likes to stay home. They have different lifestyles.”
The headlines quickly reached the actress, who was far from the United States, working on the filming of one of her projects, and immediately began to live through the worst days of her life.
“It hurt because I really torture myself completely with every move I make as a mother; mom guilt is very real. I still had to tell myself: ‘None of this is true.’ You’re a good mother and you’ve never been a party girl,” explained the actress in an interview with British Vogue.
“I felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, produced, or starred in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.”
Custody Battle
Sexism became a real obstacle against which Turner had to learn to fight to fully focus on what was really important: her daughters. And so, she began a legal battle for custody of the little ones, Willa, almost four years old, and Delphine, almost five.
And although there were some days when the actress herself confessed to not knowing if she would make it and even thought that she “was never strong enough to defend myself,” after a while of being stuck, her lawyer reminded her that it was her children she was fighting for.
“Once someone said to me, ‘Do it for your kids,’ I do it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I will find the strength for them,” she reiterated.
