Stephen Colbert Faces Backlash and Apologizes for Controversial Kate Middleton Comments

Some people fail to grasp that humor shouldn’t impact others negatively, as comedian Stephen Colbert from The Late Show felt compelled to apologize for making inappropriate assumptions about the whereabouts of Kate Middleton, just before learning that she had been absent due to cancer.

Stephen Colbert had made several comments during his show, alluding to the conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of the Princes of Wales since January of this year until a few days ago. While the entire country and the world were concerned about Kate’s whereabouts, with many speculating about her possible demise, the comedian made some tasteless jokes live on air and now regrets it.

‘The kingdom has been all a flutter by the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Well now, internet sleuths are guessing that Kate’s absence may be related to her husband and the future King of England William having an affair,’ he said. ‘Oh no, my heart goes out to poor Kate.’

Many people even asserted that Kate’s disappearance was precisely due to that and that William and Kate were going to divorce, comparing the princess to Lady Di and Rose Hanbury to Camilla. Stephen Colbert referenced William’s alleged infidelity to Kate with Rose Hanbury, a topic that has been circulating on the internet for about five years and has been denied several times by the prince.

‘Always a good response when your wife accuses you of cheating. ‘Ha ha, imagine me having an affair! It is to laugh,” Colbert added.

Another topic that garnered even more ridicule from Colbert was the edited Mother’s Day photo that went viral, causing a stir among everyone. While the photo was indeed peculiar, now that we know the truth, the situation only becomes sadder.

Stephen Colbert Apologizes to Kate Middleton for Cruel Jokes

Upon learning the real reason for Kate’s disappearance, Colbert publicly apologized for all the mocking and cruel comments he made about the princess and her relationship with William, now saying that he sends them his best wishes.

‘Far too many of us know that any cancer diagnosis of any kind is harrowing for the patient and for their family,’ he continued. ‘Though I’m sure they don’t need it from me, I and everyone here at ‘The Late Show’ would like to extend our well-wishes and heartfelt hope that her recovery is swift and thorough.’

However, many internet users argue that these are not genuine apologies, with which we somewhat agree. If you’re going to apologize later, you shouldn’t make offensive comments in the first place.

‘No actual apology from Stephen Colbert to Kate Middleton,’ one person wrote.

‘Could Stephen Colbert be any more of a jerk??? This is misleading rambling, NOT an apology of any kind,’ are some of the comments.

Some people even defended the host, sparking a debate about whether it was right or wrong for him to make those comments; ultimately, that’s the job of a host.

‘Stephen Colbert handled this very well. And I’m glad that he didn’t apologize for his jokes. Because he doesn’t need to. Joking about public figures and what’s happening in the news is part of being a late-night host.’
