The Oscars ceremony never fails to serve up some juicy extras that keep the gossip flowing. And in its 96th run, it was no different. A Mexican influencer/actor stole the spotlight, catching the eye of everyone in the room and beyond.
We’re talking about Juanpa Zurita, who set Mexican social media and the Mexican-American community abuzz when he graced the red carpet at the 2024 Academy Awards.
The Mexican influencer strolled hand in hand with his girlfriend Macarena Achaga down the red carpet, sparking a major social media controversy among the Spanish-speaking community familiar with him, especially since his role in the series about Mexican music icon Luis Miguel.
So… the question on everyone’s mind is crystal clear: Who is he, and what was he doing there?
Even though it was already announced that they would represent Mexico and Argentina at this Hollywood event by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, his presence remained puzzling.

And why did Zurita walk the red carpet at the 2024 Oscars?
This remains a mystery, but it’s assumed he was invited by the Oscars or another party aiming to promote the event’s broadcast.
Hours before the red carpet, Juanpa Zurita shared a story, linking to the official Oscars page with broadcast details, using #AcademyPartner and #Publicidad.
“We’re going to the Oscars for the first time. Hard to believe this is happening to us… it’s one of those dreams that are so far away, it’s hard to see them. But here we are, representing,” he wrote in his post showing that they were on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Either way, his presence has caused a stir on social media in Mexico, which is surely being capitalized on by someone, although we don’t know who yet. We’ll be keeping an eye on it.
