Not Good Kenough? ‘Barbie’ Snubbed by the BAFTA Despite Saving the Industry

The award season started a couple of weeks ago, and there are still many award shows coming soon. This Thursday, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), presided by none other than Prince William, announced its nominations, and although these awards are more focused on British movies and television, they always include Hollywood productions as well.

However, unlike other award shows, it seems that the BAFTA wasn’t that impressed by Barbie, despite, it’s considered the film that basically saved the movie industry by collecting an outstanding amount of over 1.4 billion dollars worldwide. Instead, Oppenheimer is the production that amassed the most nominations with 13 nominations followed by Poor Things with 11, Killers of the Flower Moon with 9, and way behind Barbie with only 5.

To fans’ and critics’ surprise, not even Greta Gerwig got a nod in the Best Director category. The only nominations the Feminist 101 movie got were Leading Actress for Margot Robbie, Supporting Actor for Ryan Reynolds, Original Screenplay, Costume Design, and Production Design.

The BAFTA Awards will take place next February 18: Here’s the 2024 BAFTA nominations full list:
