When the nights get long and it’s just too cold to go outside, there’s nothing better than wrapping yourself up in a nice, warm blanket and watching something with a happy ending. Netflix knows this, and apparently, Vanessa Hudgens knows this as well because, on November 21st, they’re giving us yet another holiday romantic comedy: The Knight Before Christmas, a follow-up to the unexpected success of The Princess Switch, Hudgens’ hit rom-com from 2018.
From what we can see in the recently released trailer, Hudgens plays Brooke, an unlucky-in-love science teacher who literally bumps into her knight in shining armor, Sir Cole, a 14th century time-traveler who ends up in our time for mysterious reasons. The man’s unexpected arrival would definitely scare anyone in real life, but as we’ve learned from a slew of other time-travel related romantic comedies, modern-day women are so tired of trying to find their “Prince Charming” among contemporary suitors that even something as huge as a 600-year age difference is no obstacle to find love with a charming newcomer.
After running Sir Cole over with her “steel steed” on a dark, snowy night, Hudgens’ character believes that he is just a normal 21st-century man who has temporarily lost his memory, so she decides to help him until it comes back, and what is ensues is the typical story of “old-fashioned gentleman trying to figure out the modern world, while also giving the modern woman the true, old-fashioned love she’d always dreamed of.” Fun, sweet, and heartwarmingly predictable: exactly what a good holiday movie is all about.
