Netflix is stepping into the sports arena in a big way, securing exclusive U.S. broadcasting rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. This landmark deal not only reinforces the tournament’s global prominence but also marks Netflix’s first acquisition of a full soccer competition, solidifying its commitment to live sports.
The agreement between FIFA and Netflix ensures U.S. fans will have “unparalleled access” to every match live, along with in-depth coverage and studio analysis. English and Spanish broadcasts will be available, including coverage for Puerto Rico.
The 2027 tournament will take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, featuring 32 of the world’s best national teams. As for the 2031 host nation, FIFA has yet to decide, but the U.S. and Mexico are strong contenders.
Netflix isn’t stopping at live coverage. It plans to release exclusive documentaries leading up to both tournaments, focusing on top players and the continued growth of women’s soccer.
FIFA’S Game-Changing Partnership
The deal highlights Netflix’s growing interest in live sports. In addition to its upcoming FIFA coverage, Netflix is set to livestream two NFL games on Christmas Day, with more NFL content and WWE’s Monday Night Raw in the pipeline for 2025.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino called the agreement a “historic day” for women’s soccer. “Netflix’s commitment to growing women’s football is evident,” he said. “This partnership sets new benchmarks for U.S. engagement and underscores the global value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the growing excitement surrounding women’s soccer:
“I’ve seen the fandom for the FIFA Women’s World Cup grow tremendously—from the electric atmosphere in France in 2019 to the incredible energy across Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix isn’t just about streaming matches; it’s about celebrating the players, the culture, and the passion driving women’s sports.”
The FIFA Women’s World Cup has become the biggest event in women’s sports, drawing a record 2 billion viewers for the 2023 tournament. Netflix’s involvement is expected to push those numbers even higher by leveraging its global reach and innovative storytelling.
For fans, this partnership means seamless access to every moment of the action, from thrilling goals to behind-the-scenes stories. With Netflix in the game, the FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to soar to new heights in popularity and visibility.
