Alec Baldwin is trending since yesterday night due to the news about the accident that took place on the film set of the movie he was starring in called Rust, outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. The actor pulled a prop gun causing the death of Halyna Hutchins, director of photography, and wounding director Joel Souza.

As a result, the shooting of the film was halted. The 42-year-old cinematographer was taken by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque but lost her life. The 48-year-old director was sent by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, where he is recovering.

Baldwin’s reaction

Different media have reported that Alec Baldwin is devastated. He has been seen outside the sheriff’s office crying. For their part, authorities are investigating how and what type of projectile was shot.

On Friday morning, the 63-year-old actor spoke out about the accident on his personal Twitter account:

“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred, and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Rust

This film is set in Kansas in 1880 and is about a 13-year-old boy who copes with life by taking responsibility for his younger brother after the death of his parents. Baldwin was playing the young boy’s grandfather who takes him in after he is sentenced to hang for an accidental murder.

Other accidents

This unpleasant episode is very reminiscent of what happened in 1993, when Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee, 28, died on the film set while filming the legendary movie The Crow.

Another similar case happened in 1984 when Jon-Erik Hexum lost his life on the set of the television series Cover Up, while pretending to play Russian roulette with a prop gun.
