America Ferrera, Eva Longoria And Other Artists Send Love To Latinx Families

Actress America Ferrera and Eva Longoria lead a group of more than 200 writers, artists, and activists who have signed and published a letter of love and solidarity with Latinx all across the United States. This act against hate comes after the shooting in El Paso of August 3 in which a white man opened fire inside a Wal-Mart, killing 22 and injuring 24, as well as a new policy from the White House that makes it easier to deny green cards to Latinx.

“Over 200 Latinx leaders have come together to send a message of love and solidarity to our community during these dark times, and to call on all of us to speak out and fight for the humanity of all people. Read the letter, share the love, and declare yourself an ally” Ferrera posted on social media. The list of celebrities who have signed the Rita Moreno, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Diego Luna, Salma Hayek, Rosario, Dawson, Gina Rodriguez, Diane Guerrero, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin.

“This is a moment in our nation’s history that we have to show up for—not only for our community, but for every community,” Longoria told Vanity Fair. “Today it’s us. Yesterday it was a different community; tomorrow it’s going to be a different community. This message isn’t about policy or political parties. It’s about love and decency, and it’s about bringing humanity back into the conversation.”

“We will not be broken”, says the letter. Ferrera, best known as the star of Ugly Betty and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, has long been speaking out against Donald Trump’s rhetoric and policies, as well as standing up against discrimination Latinx experience every day.
