Recently, a media outlet revealed that it obtained a document from the U.S. Air Force’s Safety Center, disclosing that in January 2024, a US Navy F-22 fighter jet narrowly avoided a collision with a supposed UFO.
The incident occurred over Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia, prompting the F-22 to change its course to avoid the UFO. Alongside documentation of the event, it’s believed there may also be video evidence of what could have been a dangerous encounter.
The document states, “On January 4, 2024, a Near Mid-Air Collision (NMAC) Traffic Report with an unidentified type of aircraft/small unmanned aerial system (private or civilian-owned drone) within the airspace prompted the flight path deviation of an F-22.”
Liberation Times, the outlet that accessed the document, also reported testimony dating back to December 2023 about alleged drone incursions. Some attempts to shoot them down were reportedly made, but authorities refused to provide a direct response when questioned on the matter.

US Navy Incident Report Labels Object as a Drone
Despite evidence available, the report still references drones. However, experts argue that it’s unlikely a standard drone could come so close to colliding with a US Navy fighter jet, as it doesn’t match the size or characteristics of the flying object reported.
“The whole situation raises questions. Most military bases and sensitive government facilities have sophisticated technology to detect and counter drones,” said a member of a specialized drone-flying group.
Authorities refer to these objects as “unmanned aerial systems,” but this term is broad and includes any flying object without an onboard pilot. This ambiguity adds to the mystery, leading some to speculate that these UFO are increasingly appearing near areas where they can be seen more clearly and even come close to aircraft, although officials have yet to confirm this.
