Disney heir comes out as transgender; regrets not doing much for the LGBTQ community

Disney has publicly condemned the “Don Say Gay or Trans” bill in Florida after Charlee Disney, one of the heirs of The Walt Disney Co., came out as a transgender in a recent interview.

Charlee, who uses gender-neutral pronouns, said that their family would make a donation of $250,000 to the Human Right Campaign, according to Los Angeles Times.

The Walt Disney Company has been criticized in the lasts months due to the lack of commitment to its community after Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education Act, also known as the “Don’t Say Gat or Trans” bill which prohibits the discussion or sexual orientation or gender identity within classrooms.

Charlee, who is a high school biology and environmental science teacher, is one of the youngest in the Disney family. Speaking to Los Angeles Times, they said that though they have a lot of support from their family and their privilege, it has been a difficult journey.

“I had very few openly gay role models, and I certainly didn’t have any trans or nonbinary role models. I didn’t see myself reflected in anyone, and that made me feel like there was something wrong with me”, Disney said.

They also added because of their lack of communication and speaking skills, they haven’t been able to rise up their voice and show their support to the LGBTQ+ community, something they truly regret.
