Chris Rock addresses for the first time his altercation with Will Smith

At last Chris Rock has spoken about last Sunday’s incident at the Oscars ceremony. During his first public appearance since the altercation with Will Smith, the comedian addressed what happened and said he wasn’t still ready to fully talk about it.

Chris Rock had a stand-up set at The Wilbur in Boston this Wednesday, making it the first appearance since Will Smith slapped him after making a joke that upset Jada Pinkett-Smith and that was related to her alopecia.

Though the comedian told the crowd he had written the show he was about to perform days before the Oscars incident, he did address the slap, according to a CNN reporter.

“I’m still processing what happened,” Rock said, “So at some point, I’ll talk about that shit. It’ll be serious. It’ll be funny, but right now I’m going to tell some jokes.”

It is the first time the comedian has ever spoken about the incident. Right after the altercation at the Oscars stage, Will Smith received his award for Best Actor and in a way, he exonerated himself.

Jada Pinkett, who has been open about her struggle with alopecia, said she was ready to move on; whilst the Academy is launching an investigation that could lead to some repercussions towards Will Smith because of his violent reaction.

Right after Will Smith went on stage to punch Chris Rock, the comedian kept composure and said that viewers were watching a historic moment in television. Later, reports claimed that he and Smith talked backstage, however Rock’s brother denied such a thing happened.

Rapper Diddy also commented that he saw Smith and Rock make peace during the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, but is not clear if both have talked or apologized personally. In a statement, Will Smith did apologize to Chris Rock.
