Believe it or not, botox isn’t just for lips and certain areas of the face. There’s also botox for hair! It’s known as hair botox, a product you not only should know about but should also give a good chance on your next payday, and here’s why.

What Is Hair Botox and What Is It Used For?

First of all, let’s recall what regular botox is: according to Mayo Clinic, it’s a type of medication that’s injected and whose active ingredients, mainly onabotulinumtoxinA, help reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles.

There are some botox treatments that also work to prevent problems with neck spasms, excessive sweating, and overactive bladder, although their main goal is more about aesthetic function regarding expression lines.

Now, hair botox serves as a kind of semi-permanent deep conditioner on the scalp, according to Harper’s Bazaar, which will help your hair not only achieve greater shine and volume, but also make frizz smoother and look fuller on your head.

“It’s very similar to a keratin treatment, except it doesn’t have harsh chemicals,” says Cedric, a hair products specialist, master stylist, and owner of Cedric Salon, located in the Lotte New York Palace hotel.

Unlike regular botox, this treatment isn’t injected, and it’s not really aggressive for the body because its main function is to cover the hair with fillers, such as keratin, to eliminate broken ends and repair it, giving it the appearance of being thicker and more abundant.

And why is it called “botox” if it’s quite different from this procedure? Perhaps, according to stylist and educator Jessica Page, it was named so mainly for its anti-aging properties for hair.

“Unlike face injections, hair botox simply uses a deep conditioning treatment to repair damage and prolong hair health. Treatments can reduce the effects of hair aging,” she says.

Why Should You Spend your Payday on Hair Botox?

If the thought of a kind of rejuvenator for your hair isn’t attractive enough for you, here are some of the main benefits of hair botox so you won’t be afraid to spend on it next time you get paid:

It’s worth mentioning that hair botox isn’t really a keratin treatment, as its main difference is that it doesn’t release formaldehyde when applied, meaning that, as such, it’s not chemical but rather a conditioning treatment, according to Hurtado.

“A keratin treatment contains more chemicals that are applied to make hair smoother, relaxed, and without frizz,” she says.

In addition, the treatment can be applied to any hair type, so there is no person who is not suitable for it. It should be noted that several stylists who have used it recommend it, especially for those who have particularly damaged hair.

It may be a bit expensive for some people, as its cost, depending on the place where it is applied, can vary between 500 and 300,000 Mexican pesos, but it is certainly much cheaper compared to a keratin treatment, which can cost more than 7,500 Mexican pesos.
